Once spring has sprung, it’s time for summer decorating with fresh and airy ideas that do not cost a king’s ransom. There are many great ideas for the budget conscience that are inexpensive, easy to do and will give you a great look in little to no time.
Here are a few to get your creative juices flowing and show you how fun summer decorating can be:
For a really great look, just grab one wall in a room and change the color. It’s fast, easy, very inexpensive and will give you that fresh summer look. Look around your room and choose a wall that will accent the rest of the room or be the focal point of the room. You can easily paint one wall in less than one hour or possibly two if you need to add a second coat.
Pillows and Tablecloths
If you are totally sewing machine illiterate, not to worry. Grab duck tape, ribbon and fabric. Wrap your pillows with a summer-fresh cloth like a present and secure it with a decorative bow that accentuates the fabric color.
A roll of duct tape is pretty inexpensive and very useful for creating temporary hems on tablecloths. Take a flat sheet and place it over the chosen table and then make a hem with the tape to the perfect height.
If you bring the hem just above floor level, you can create storage boxes to place odds and ends to store underneath the table. Toys, books, sandals, the Frisbee or dog toys can all go here.
If you are someone who loves sewing, go for it! Pick out some lovely fabric and foam pillows and let your creativity flow!
Remove all your collectibles or knickknacks and store them in a box. Leave only a few that are favorites and enjoy the uncluttered look. Not only will this give your room a fresher appearance, but cut down on the dust these magnets draw!
Everyone knows a bouquet of flowers are the symbol of summer. Unfortunately, some flowers don’t last very long and buying flowers on a regular basis can become a little pricey. Instead, purchase a packet of sunflower seeds, find a nice sunny spot in your garden or yard and plant the seeds. Some varieties do not drop pollen on your table and will last a good ten days.
Sunflowers are super easy to be grown, need very little maintenance and will also make your garden or yard look great to boot! If flowers are your passion, you probably have a great variety in your garden. Grab an assortment and make a beautiful table arrangements. Try some glass stones or actual stones and make that perfect arrangement with a brilliant glass bowl.
Brighten Up Your Rooms
You can easily brighten up your rooms by taking up the throw rug in your entry way and replace it with a bright new piece of hand bound carpet that will match the adjacent rooms. Another idea is removing heavy or layered curtain treatments and area rugs. Replace heavy, dark curtains with sheers or lace for a fresh airy look that also controls the amount of sunlight streaming in. Leave your hard floors bare for a cooler feeling.
Add Some Sparkle To Your Surfaces
Use either vinegar or a glass cleaner and clean up all your glass components and surfaces. All pictures and frames, your stove and refrigerator surfaces, the television and screen and the kitchen cabinet glass doors. Clean any wall sconces and other lights such as your lamps and lamp shades. Step back and take a look – your shiny surfaces reflect the sun and will give you a lovely sparkling summer look.
Swap And Move Furniture
Some furniture that works really well in the winter months might seem too bulky and out of place in a room decorated for summer. Look in other rooms and see if something will work better for that room. Another idea is to get a sofa and/or chair cover and place it over the furniture to give it a more summery look. Pick out a few plates from your china or collectible plates and hang them on the wall.
Clean off your kitchen counter-tops for a very uncluttered clean look. Place your toaster, spice caddie, coffee maker inside your lower cabinets. They are easily accessible for use but will make your kitchen less cluttered.
Try out some of these ideas and see what a difference they can make for your summer decorating projects. Some of these projects will also allow your creative ideas to surface and lead you along a great summer decorating plan. Most summer decorating projects are really very inexpensive, extremely easy to do and will not take very long to carryout.
