Whether promoting more family time spent together or due to approaching holidays, the idea of adding a game room can be very appealing. A game room can be a great place for family members to spend some quality time together while enjoying favorite games. Guests visiting over the holidays will take home great memories of excellent entertainment and great relaxation.
Before jumping in head first, you will have to put a good deal of thought into this new room including where you want it located and what it will take to make it happen. Good planning will give you great results.
Where Will The Game Room Be Located?
Do you have an extra room that is not being used? Do you have a great basement that has served as nothing more than a convenient place for stored stuff? If the basement is your preference, do you have other storage options for the stuff that has been accumulating over time? If you don’t have an extra room or a basement, then adding an additional room to your house is inevitable.
How Much Is This Going To Run Me?
If you are adding a room to your home, keep in mind, you are also adding value to your property. Even though you might be spending time with your calculator, this is an excellent investment should you some day sell your home.
If you are overhauling an extra room or your basement, you can probably do a lot of the project yourself and only assign projects to professionals when you are over your head.
Choosing Games For Your Room:
The games that you add to your game room will have a say in the layout and the overall size of the room. Kids really like pinball games, so you might want to consider how many and if you have the available space. Are you into console games such as Xbox or PS4? Possibly you prefer older games like Atari or Sega Genesis. If your basement is becoming the game room, you might consider bringing in a pool table! Pool is a great game that all ages can enjoy. Also, get a little creative, with a saw, wood and paint, you could make a cover for the pool table that will serve as a ping pong ball court! Just place it on top of the pool table, add the net and you are set to go! It’s also called utilizing your space!
Keep a good variety in games so there will be something for everyone. If space allows, installing a big screen TV with a great sound system will be a must. Keep in mind, everything costs money, so choose your games and entertainment systems with that in mind.
Make Your Game Room Comfortable:
Choose chairs and pillows that are comfortable for everyone and will add warmth to the room. Will there be tables for food and snacks or a bar for food and snacks? Consider storage space for stowing controllers and various games when not in use, it keeps the room less cluttered. If you are good at crafting, design your own storage areas and cushions and pillows for your chairs.
The time it will take to get your game room up and running depends on whether you are using an existing room or adding a room. Obviously, an existing room or basement will be less expensive and will come together much faster. Deciding the best route to go for your game room should be well thought out before moving ahead.
A game room is a great place for guests to get together, relax and just have fun. Invite your neighbors over on a rainy Saturday or Sunday and spend the day enjoying yourselves indoors. A game room is ideal with approaching holidays, guests visiting from far away, or across town.
Who would have thought by adding a game room, would also add a higher value to your home! Plan โ Design โ Have Fun!
